Hello! my name is Esmoreit and I started my stained glass journey in 2020.
Before this, my interests in the arts were quite general, I liked music like everyone else and was a fan of playing theatre in high school. I started off studying dental hygiene, but after 2 years I ended up doing a bachelor in Arts, Culture, and Media. I'm specialized in Criticism, Visual Art and Theatre. Now I will be doing a Masters in Art Education to become a high school teacher of art history and culture.
In the Netherlands, you can find stained glass in every part of the city. Churches, houses, and public buildings, it's everywhere! When I was young, my dream was to have a fully white house on the inside, with every window having a different colour, so my house would be a big party of colour on the inside. Now I can actually do it, and make it even cooler.
In 2020 I got the opportunity to attend a Tiffany glass class at Glas in Lood Groningen. I had 8 lovely weeks making friends and 2 ambitious stained glass projects. Here I made the 'Testbeeld Vaganza'. I got so excited making stained glass, I bought the equipment to start from home. I still work from my 12 square meter bedroom. Last year, I attended another class to learn how to make solid windows. The difference between tiffany and stained glass is mainly that the first is more detailed and has to be hung inside. Stained glass can be used as a window which can survive bad weather.
Over the years I have had 3 exhibitions, all in Groningen. My first exhibition was at the Wolkenfabriek, the second at Viva Vintage!, and the last at the Harmoniegebouw University of Groningen. I sure hope there are more to come!
I make little jokes with words all the time, this is where Esmoruit came from. A silly little joke.
